Hi Everyone,

They’re back, back right here in Miami, so exciting. I was excited enough to press my blue suit and go to the hair salon for a little touch up.  It’s been a while since Il Volo has been on the move and we missed them! Since arriving in Miami on Sunday, Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca have been on a whirlwind of interviews, including radio chats, Facebook chats, and TV appearances. They even had time for a little soccer on one show. You can tell they love to play the game! They appeared Tuesday night for a taping of Sabato Gigante to be aired toward the end of May. Leelee attended the taping and said they were amazing (of course), she’s going to give us a look at her evening in a post in the very near future!!        billboard1

Tonight they will be presenters at The Latin Billboards. Andrea Bocelli is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award and Il Volo will be part of the presentation!! Now, that’s going to be an emotional moment!! Remember Bocelli’s advice to Gianluca after he won Ti Lascio Una Canzone? The show will televised @ 7 Pm tonight, Eastern, on the Telemundo channel. There will be a red carpet portion too, hopefully we’ll get to see them there too!  So…..tune in!!

TWITTERS, TWEETS AND KEEKS..

Gianluca tweeted 2 days ago” #miami #hot #smile #billboards2014 #excited”. The next day, “Today in #miami telemundo”. He also tweeted a nice photo!

Piero tweeted “every moment of your day is a surprise especially when you meet people like @BeatleFloyd, proud to have a fan like you, thank you” Today “LatinBiillboards is getting closer”

Ignazio tweeted “today at billboards” Last night “buonanotte”

I think it’s fair to say Il Volo loves Miami and as Leelee said “Of course they do, Miami loves them”!!

The specifics of their full tour are not available yet, we will post a s soon as we have the information! To all of you who have your tickets to the concerts in June, i’m sure it can’t come soon enough!! It’s going to be especially wonderful for those of you Flight Crew members that will be meeting each other for the first time!!

I Know Il Volo will shine tonight and make us proud of them, they always do! Love and luck tonight, Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca!!  Fingers crossed for an Award!

DID YOU KNOW??????

Hi Everyone.

It seems as the concert in Russia was a great success. Il Volo loved being there and expressed they would like to return soon.

On their return, they had a brief rest,  we see Piero enjoying a soccer match on TV. Ignazio tweeted about going to Venice, “The City of Love”. Gianluca sent out an adorable picture of him and Ernesto at a young age ,so cute!! You can view the pictures on Mundial and All Things Il Volo.

Now Il Volo is in Venice!! We don’t know why yet, they’re moving around so much this year it’s hard to keep track!!

I found kelly’s post about a Novella based on Il Volo and their lives VERY interesting, think of the fun that will be!

I thought some of you, like me, were “bobby soxers” back in the day, you might want to remember Bobby Darin.

DID YOU KNOW?

Bobby Darin (born Walden Robert Cassotto; May 14, 1936 – December 20, 1973) was an American singer, songwriter, and actor of film and television. He performed in a range of music genres, including pop, rock’n’roll, jazz, folk, and country. bob2

He started as a songwriter for Connie Francis, and recorded his own first million-seller Splish Splash in 1958. This was followed by Dream Lover, Mack the Knife, and Beyond the Sea, which brought him world fame. In 1962, he won a Golden Globe for his first film Come September, co-starring his first wife, Sandra Dee.

Throughout the 1960s, he became more politically active and worked on Robert Kennedy’s Democratic presidential campaign. He was present on the night of June 4/5, 1968, at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles at the time of Kennedy’s assassination. The same year, he discovered that he had been brought up by his grandparents, not his parents, and that the girl he thought was his sister was actually his mother. These events deeply affected Darin and sent him into a long period of seclusion.

Although he made a successful television comeback, his health was beginning to fail, as he had always expected, following bouts of rheumatic fever in childhood. This knowledge of his vulnerability had always spurred him on to exploit his musical talent while still young. He died at age 37, following a heart operation in Los Angeles.

Darin was born in the Bronx borough of New York City. He was reared by his grandparents, whom he thought were his parents. Darin’s mother became pregnant at age 16 and, presumably because of the scandalous nature of such in that era, the family hatched a plan to pass the baby off as his maternal grandparents’ child. Darin’s mother never revealed who the father of her child was, not even to Darin, who was reportedly devastated at learning the true circumstances of his birth. His maternal grandfather, Saverio Antonio Cassotto, was of Italian descent. His maternal grandmother, Vivian Fern (Walden), was of Colonial English and Danish ancestry  and a vaudeville singer. His mother, Vanina Cassotto, was presented as his elder sister. He only learned of their actual relationship in 1968, when he was 32.bob3

In 1959, Darin recorded the self-penned, “Dream Lover”, a ballad that became a multi-million seller. With it came financial success and the ability to demand more creative control of his career. So he meant for his That’s All album to show that he could sing more than rock and roll. His next single, “Mack the Knife”, the standard from Kurt Weill’s Threepenny Opera  was given a vamping jazz-pop interpretation. Although Darin initially was opposed to releasing it as a single, the song went to No. 1 on the charts for nine weeks, sold two million copies, and won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year in 1960. Darin was also voted the Grammy Award for Best New Artist that year, and “Mack The Knife” has since been honored with a Grammy Hall of Fame Award.

Darin followed “Mack” with “Beyond the Sea,” a jazzy English-language version of Charles Trenet’s French hit song “La Mer”.

His first major film, Come September (1960), was a teenager-oriented romantic comedy with 18-year old actress Sandra Dee. They first met during the production of the film, fell in love, and got married soon afterwards. Dee gave birth to a son Dodd Mitchell Darin (also known as Morgan Mitchell) the following year, 1961, but the couple divorced in 1967. Dee and Darin made a few films together with moderate success.bobsan

In 1962, Darin won the Golden Globe Award for “New Star Of The Year – Actor” for his role in Come September.  The following year he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama” (Best actor) in Pressure Point.

In 1963, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as a shell-shocked soldier in Captain Newman, M.D.. At the Cannes Film Festival he won the French Film Critics Award for best actor.

In October 1964, he appeared as a wounded ex-convict who is befriended by an orphan girl in “The John Gillman Story” episode of NBC’s Wagon Train western television series.

In 1973, after failing to take antibiotics to protect his heart before a dental visit, Darin developed an overwhelming systemic infection (sepsis). This further weakened his body and affected one of his heart valves. On December 11, he checked himself into Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for another round of open-heart surgery to repair the two artificial heart valves he had received in January 1971. On the evening of December 19, a five-man surgical team worked for over six hours to repair his damaged heart. Shortly after the surgery ended in the early morning hours of December 20, 1973, Darin died in the recovery room without regaining consciousness. He was 37 years old.bob4

There were no funeral arrangements; Darin’s last wish in his will was that his body be donated to science for medical research. His remains were transferred to UCLA Medical Center shortly after his death.

Let’s have some of your thoughts on Bobby. It’s sad that his life was cut so short.

Waiting for more news from Il Volo on their next tour, trip, appearance, anything. We’re anxious for more news.  In the meantime,Guys, enjoy your time off!!

Hi Everyone,

There is much happiness going on around here!!  Il Volo is coming back, not just for their March concert with Laura, but touring The US again this year! The concerts are fewer than usual, but we understand their need to travel to other countries, especially ones they have not been to before. We have to share although it’s hard!!!

This time we’ll have a look at the great Italian tenor, Pavarotti. Piero says the first CD he bought was one of Luciano Pavarotti’s.

Luciano Pavarotti,  12 October 1935 – 6 September 2007) was an Italian operatic tenor who also crossed over into popular music, eventually becoming one of the most commercially successful tenors of all time. He made numerous recordings of complete operas and individual arias, gaining worldwide fame for the brilliance and beauty of his tone—especially into the upper register—and eventually established himself as one of the finest tenors of the 20th century.

As one of The Three Tenors, Pavarotti became well known for his televised concerts and media appearances. From the beginning of his professional career as a tenor in 1961 in Italy to his final performance of “Nessun dorma” at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Pavarotti was at his best in bel canto operas, pre-Aida Verdi roles, and Puccini works such as La bohème, Tosca, and Madama Butterfly. Pavarotti was also noted for his charity work on behalf of refugees and the Red Cross, amongst others. He died from pancreatic cancer on 6 September 2007.     pav2

Luciano Pavarotti was born in 1935 on the outskirts of Modena in Northern Italy, the son of Fernando Pavarotti, a baker and amateur tenor, and Adele Venturi, a cigar factory worker. Although he spoke fondly of his childhood, the family had little money; its four members were crowded into a two-room apartment. According to Pavarotti, his father had a fine tenor voice but rejected the possibility of a singing career because of nervousness. World War II forced the family out of the city in 1943. For the following year they rented a single room from a farmer in the neighbouring countryside, where the young Pavarotti developed an interest in farming.

After abandoning the dream of becoming a football goalkeeper. Pavarotti spent seven years in vocal training. Pavarotti’s earliest musical influences were his father’s recordings, most of them featuring the popular tenors of the day – Beniamino Gigi, Giovann Martinelli, Tito Schipa, and Enrico Carus. Pavarotti’s favourite tenor and idol was Giuseppe Di Stefano and he was also deeply influenced by Mario Lanza, saying: “In my teens I used to go to Mario Lanza movies and then come home and imitate him in the mirror”. At around the age of nine he began singing with his father in a small local church choir.

After what appears to have been a normal childhood with a typical interest in sports—in Pavarotti’s case football above all, he graduated from the Scuola Magistrale and faced the dilemma of a career choice. He was interested in pursuing a career as a professional football goalkeeper, but his mother convinced him to train as a teacher. He subsequently taught in an elementary school for two years but finally allowed his interest in music to win out. Recognising the risk involved, his father gave his consent only reluctantly.

Pavarotti began the serious study of music in 1954 at the age of 19 with Arrigo Pola, a respected teacher and professional tenor in Modena who offered to teach him without remuneration.

pav1

While undertaking an international “farewell tour,” Pavarotti was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in July 2006. The tenor fought back against the implications of this diagnosis, undergoing major abdominal surgery and making plans for the resumption and conclusion of his singing commitments. He died at his home in Modena on 6 September 2007. Within hours of his death, his manager, Terri Robson, noted in an e-mail statement, “The Maestro fought a long, tough battle against the pancreatic cancer which eventually took his life. In fitting with the approach that characterized his life and work, he remained positive until finally succumbing to the last stages of his illness.

Pavarotti was born in the outskirts of Modena in Northern Italy.

Modena  is a city and comune (municipality) on the south side of the Po Valley, in the Province of Modena in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.

mod2

An ancient town, it is the seat of an archbishop, but is now known as “the capital of engines”, since the factories of the famous Italian sports car makers Ferrari, De Tomaso, Lamborghini, Pagani and Maserati are, or were, located here and all, except Lamborghini, have headquarters in the city or nearby. Lamborghini is headquartered not far away in Sant’Agata Bolognese in the adjacent Province of Bologna. One of Ferrari’s cars, the 360 Modena, was named after the town itself. One of the colors for Ferraris is Modena yellow.

Modena is well known in culinary circles for its production of balsamic vinegar and also for its Military Academy, Italy’s “West Point”, which is housed in the Ducal Palace.

Famous Modenesi include Mary of Modena, the Queen consort of England and Scotland; operatic tenor Luciano Pavarotti (1935–2007) and soprano Mirella Freni, born in Modena itself; Enzo Ferrari (1898–1988), eponymous founder of the Ferrari motor company; the Catholic Priest and Senior Exorcist of Vatican Gabriele Amorth; renowned chef Massimo Bottura and the rock singer Vasco Rossi who was born in Zocca, one of the 47 comuni in the Province of Modena.

Latest tweets include, “In Bologna” from Gianluca. Piero celebrating food and family this past Sunday and Ignazio sporting his new tatoo “Born To Rock” and in English too!!

Up to date tweet from Piero, “On the way to Rome”, can flight to here be far behind?
