LynnK, Not Groupish and Without Phone-itis in Albany

lynnK albany 3

Hey Crew!

Sorry I didn’t post anything about the Albany concert. Other people said just about everything that could be said and I didn’t take many pics because I wanted to enjoy the concert without “phoneitis!”

I didn’t do the M&G, but people I talked to after said it was very short and hustled. Their buses were parked next to the theater and they got on and headed to NY.  Not one stitch of advertising on the buses or equipment trucks. Definitely a missed advertising opportunity. If I’d hung around a little while I’m sure I’d have seen them but I didn’t want to be groupyish (?)

The third nite they were in Albany they stayed at the Hilton which is where I stayed the next nite. So I missed seeing them there by one nite! By the time I checked in they had left for their sound check! Or I chickened out! Take your pick! One of the parking valets said that when they all checked in it was a loud, yakking bunch of Italians!

I also talked to some of the members of the orchestra and told them how great they sounded.  One of the violinists accompanied Piero and Igna for their duet on O Paese d’ O sole and he was terrific. He put as much emotion in his playing as they did in their singing. For me that was the best song of the concert! Nobody seems to be posting about it. They really acknowledged him, patted him on the back and said grazie, grazie to him! I told him what a great job he did! He smiled, said thanks and seemed a little shy and embarrassed! I said thanks to other members. They are with the Albany Symphony Orchestra. There were thirteen of them.

I took some photos of their buses and the equip trucks on my phone.  I walked around the corner of the the theater and they were all lined up there.

Also a black stretch limo was just closing it’s doors. Alot of serious looking security! I think it was Governor Cuomo. He’s Italian and I’m sure he met them at the Columbus Day parade in NY.  He comes up to the Saranac Lake/ Lake Placid area frequently for short rests. He and his daughters ski and hang out. I stopped to get gas and looked over at the next pump and there he was filling up his own vehicle. Just him, no one else around him! No security, nothing! Gave him a thumbs up!

I had watched so many concert videos on the various Il Volo sites that when they appeared at the top of the stairs with the lights and smoke and music it seemed like another video. Such a sense of unreality! I said to myself ” You better wake up! This is the real thing this time!” I was in the seventh row which was great. Close but not too close so I could see them, the band and orchestra. The Maestro was there which surprised me. I thought Albany might be too small for him but sure enough he was there! It was funny to see Igna do his orchestra conducting thing! Holy Cow! his voice just soars! Hearing him in person you can really hear what a powerful, musical capacity he has. Somewhere I read that he is working with Piero’s opera coach. You can here it in his voice, breathing and opened chest that wasn’t there before. I can’t wait to see how well he and the other two develop over the years! And I can’t wait to read what Myron says after the Vegas concert!

The orchestra seats were mostly an older crowd and it seemed a little subdued. I was worried the guys would think we were a bunch of duds! I couldn’t see the balcony from where I was so I don’t know how they were reacting. They got quite a few standing O’s but I think a lot of the older ones just couldn’t get up from their seats. There was a lady in a wheel bed type thing at the side and all three of them went off the stage to talk to her. Piero asked her a few questions. Couldn’t really hear. Can you imagine the effort to get her and the bed thing into the theater. There were several sets of stairs to get into the main part of the theater and they must have had to pick it and her up those stairs. A real fan!

Over all it was just fantastic! Can’t wait to go to another of their concerts!
See Ya!

Wonderfully Exhausted ~ Jeannette’s Detroit Experience

a Jeannette - Detroit

Hello my Il Volo Family…

I am back from Detroit and am totally exhausted from my four wonderful days in Detroit … What a wonderful feeling it is to be this tired from non stop enjoyment…

My adventure started by being picked up at the airport by Il Volo Sister Donna Sabo… She was waiting for me at baggage claim and I walked right up to her like I had known her for years… No one would ever think we had never actually met… We hugged and laughed and just felt like we had know each other always.. .That is the Magic of the Il Volo Connection…The beautiful thing is that the feeling of connection lasted through out my stay with her in Detroit… She is just the most beautiful person inside and out… We had a great day on Friday together along with her sweet and charming cousin Kathy who is just as kind and lovely as Donna… She accepted me with open arms… We laughed we ate, we laughed we shared some vino, we laughed till the wee hours of the morning…

Saturday, we spent a relaxed morning packing and then getting ready to head to the Westin Hotel in Downtown Detroit… It is only a few blocks from the Fox theater… This was the best decision we had ever made even though Donna does not live far from Detroit… Many of our Il Volo sisters were staying at the Westin, and thanks to Joanie Greenspan calling me and making arrangements to meet at the Westin, we were able to meet so many more of our Il Volo Family… Again we laughed, we ate, we drank the vino…

Off to the Fox theater … We got into a cab at the hotel and off to the Fox we went… We were there in less than five minutes even though the traffic was difficult.. Our Cab driver was very nice, and he did not even turn on the meter… He just was happy to get us there in spite of the congestion and so we tipped him well for his efforts… I bring this to the attention of everyone so that you will know if you are going to an Il Volo concert in a big city, please either get a hotel room a close to the venue or give yourself time to get to the venue hours before curtain time, find a restaurant within walking distance and relax then go to the concert in plenty of time… There was so much going on in Downtown Detroit the night of the concert that hundreds of people could not get to the theater on time, could not find parking and had to park more than a mile away from the venue and missed some of the concert… Thanks to our picking the Westin Hotel to spend Saturday and being only a few blocks from the theater, we avoided a heart breaking situation…

There are no words in the English Dictionary that can describe the concert I was at, at the most beautiful Theater I have ever had the pleasure of being in…

“Il Volo era assolutamente il migliore che abbia mai avuto, hanno esse stesse hanno fatto un centinaio di volte … Erano belle, sembrava incredibile e erano così divertente e affascinante sul palco che si voleva solo correre su per abbracciarlo”

Okay, I got carried away because of these Italian charmers… So in English…
“Il Volo was absolutely the best they have ever been, they out did themselves with every song they sang…. They were beautiful, sounded incredible and were so funny and charming on stage that you just wanted to run up and hug them”

I loved every minute they were on stage, they did not disappoint… Every song was perfect and incredible… Every song just brought your heart to new heights… My goodness, the solo’s  brought tears to my eyes as each one shined in their own light as they brought their solo’s to life with their skilled voices and incredible delivery… The Duets were just as amazing, and of course put all three together for a song and what do you have? ” Our three charming and beautiful men of IL Volo with the three most beautiful voices in the world…

The meet and greet? Well it was fast and as always you want more time with the guys.. But they were as always, Charming, gracious and happy that we took the time be with them for a moment and take a picture with them.. They are still the most caring and thoughtful young men you ever want to meet… And I promise you, you do want to meet them… So if you are planning a concert in the future, please try to get a meet and greet to go along with it…

The night ended with a bunch of us Il Volo sisters going back to the Westin for one more glass of Vino and share our wonderful moments of the concert with each other before going up to our rooms to dream of the most incredible three young men who gave their all so that we would have the most wonderful concert of our lives… That is just what Il Volo does !!!

Personally Speaking~A Heavenly Glow ~ Jane

I can not help but think of a heavenly glow when I look at this beautiful photo taken at the John F.Kennedy  Center for the Performing Arts.  A lot of us have voiced our thoughts about praying our dear guys, their parents, and staff stay safe during their worldly travels.  This photo just reminds me that  our Italian angels have guardian angels watching over them at all times.

“It Was Worth Every Cent” Isabel in Cleveland

Isabel’s review for the the concert that was at the State Theatre on Playhouse Square on Wednesday, 02/24.

photo was taken from my seat as the orchestra was "tuning up."
photo was taken from my seat as the orchestra was “tuning up.”

Before I begin my narrative, I just have to say that I cannot believe how seriously I lucked out from the beginning of the evening to the end. I saved for months to buy the VIP package and it was worth every cent and more! The theater was gorgeous and all of the volunteers, event staff, and security were kind and helpful. I had a PERFECT seat, 15 rows from the stage and dead-center so I had a wonderful view of everything. I was so jittery as I sat and waited and I could feel my heart pounding faster and faster as time passed. The band and orchestra started to play and that was when I started the smiling that would last all night. When Gianluca first appeared, silhouetted in light and smoke, I gasped a little, I’ll admit it. Then he started to sing and I nearly burst into tears. I have been an ilvolover for almost exactly 4 years now, and after all of the hoping, dreaming, wishing, the endless loops of youtube videos, the whistful sighing to myself, all of the working and saving that I did, I was actually there! I was in the same room as them, and I was seeing them with my own eyes instead of through a screen. I was hearing those spectacular voices with my own ears, not through someone else’s recording. It was a literal dream come true for me to be there. Now, I will add a disclaimer here, I am a little bit of a fangirl, and yes, I am also a little extra bit fond of Piero. Don’t judge me for it! The opening number was “Volare” and it was nearly impossible to resist the urge to get up and dance. Then came “Il Mondo” and I just had so many memories of trying to memorize that song four years ago. The sound balance seemed a tiny bit off in the beginning but that was soon adjusted. They spoke for a little after that, mentioning that it had been a while since they had been to Ohio and wondering what we thought of the latest PBS Special. Then they sang “Io Che Non Vivo” and now you will understand my disclaimer. Being as close to the stage as I was, I knew that there was a chance I might be seen, so when he was looking my way, I smiled and raised a finger-heart to Piero, hoping but not really believing that he might see me in the crowd.

He did see me though! The reason I know that is because he smiled at me, pointed, and made one for me!! I cannot properly put into words how much that gesture meant to me and will mean to me forever. Someone who has been such an immeasurable inspiration to me and who I admire so much, noticed me and made me feel like I was special, that I meant something too. I cannot describe how happy I was……

Now, I will keep from repeating every single detail of the concert itself for fear of being boring and I also don’t want to spoil everything for everyone who is still waiting for their concert to come around. I will say that I cried several times, especially during Caruso. Gianluca and Ignazio sang “Unchained Melody” together as usual and at Gianluca’s prompting, Ignazio dedicated it to his love of exactly three months. The entire audience melted through that intro! I made another heart for Piero later on in the concert and he responded in kind again! Something else that was extremely special for me was “O Sole Mio.” That was the song that introduced me to Il Volo, watching them perform it on the Il Volo Takes Flight PBS Special. It also introduced me to Piero and that incomparable voice of his. I remember watching him stand on a seat in the middle of the audience and hold an impossible note and from that moment on I was done for. I couldn’t believe that four years later, I was watching as he jumped off the stage and asked a young girl to borrow her seat and he stood up in the middle of the crowd, about 6 or 7 rows away from me, and held out that impossible note once again! It was truly a dream come true for me to be there……

And then came the Meet & Greet. I am miserably broke college student and so I was not able to get them any gifts. I just stood in that line and my heart was racing, I couldn’t stand still, it felt like what was coming couldn’t even be real! Then it was very suddenly my turn and then my memory goes a little fuzzy because I was just so excited. I hugged each one of them, I know that for sure! Ignazio was first, and I had to stand on my tip-toes a little! Piero remembered me because when I stepped over he asked if I was the one in the center! After I hugged Gianluca, he was admiring my red coat and he told me that he really liked it! All three of them were so kind and so sweet and I couldn’t think clearly enough to say anything coherent! Piero did ask my name and how old I was at different points, and he even said my name, which sounds very silly and fangirl-y of me to say but I just felt so special! I tried to thank them for everything as I left. I told them, “Thank you for giving me so much hope, hope to keep trying.” I wanted to say so much more! They give me hope to keep trying, to keep dreaming, to keep believing in myself. I  had so much I wanted to tell them and thank them for but I felt like I had taken too much time already! Ignazio said that I was “so sweet,” and given that he is one of the sweetest people ever, few compliments could compare! Piero said, “We will see you again” to which Gianluca added “soon” and I almost started to cry again because the chances of me seeing them again anytime soon are basically 0 and I even after that, the chances are remote. I am not sad though by any means.

I had the most magical experience, a real dream come true. It was the best night of my life and I have the incredible members of Il Volo themselves, Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto, and Gianluca Ginoble to thank for that! I am so grateful that I had such an incredible experience and the memories are something that I will treasure forever and ever!

Thank You for Reading!
