Hi Everyone,

The excitement is building!! If it’s exciting for us, can you imagine how Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca feel about their concert at Radio City Music Hall this Friday? They have dreamed of this since the beginning. In a walking tour of New York City 3 years ago they pointed to the Grand Old Theatre and said “Someday we’ll sing there” Their dream has come true and we are so happy for them!!!
For the next few days I will share pictures and the extensive history of this beautiful theatre.The picture in the heading is of the “Great Stage.” It especially brings fond memories for me; as a child my parents would take us to New York City to see the famous Christmas Spectacular at this historic theatre. The following is a partial history of “Radio City” from it’s web site. We’ll have more tomorrow!

When the stock market crashed in 1929, John D. Rockefeller, Jr. held a $91 million, 24-year lease on a piece of midtown Manhattan property properly known as “the speakeasy belt.” Plans to gentrify the neighborhood by building a new Metropolitan Opera House on the site were dashed by the failing economy and the business outlook was dim. Nevertheless, Rockefeller made a bold decision that would leave a lasting impact on the city’s architectural and cultural landscape. He decided to build an entire complex of buildings on the property-buildings so superior that they would attract commercial tenants even in a depressed city flooded with vacant rental space. The project would express the highest ideals of architecture and design and stand as a symbol of optimism and hope.

The search for a commercial partner led to the Radio Corporation of America, a young company whose NBC radio programs were attracting huge audiences and whose RKO studios were producing and distributing popular motion pictures that offered welcome diversion in hard times. Rockefeller’s financial power and RCA’s media might were joined by the unusual talents of impresario S.L. “Roxy” Rothafel. Roxy had earned a reputation as a theatrical genius by employing an innovative combination of vaudeville, movies and razzle-dazzle decor to revive struggling theatres across America. Together Rockefeller, RCA and Roxy realized a fantastic dream – a theatre unlike any in the world, and the first completed project within the complex that RCA head David Sarnoff dubbed “Radio City.” Radio City Music Hall was to be a palace for the people. A place of beauty offering high-quality entertainment at prices ordinary people could afford. It was intended to entertain and amuse, but also to elevate and inspire.

“The Boys” are enjoying some leisure time in Miami, but are also recording. I hope they get enough down time, they’ll need their best energy for New York!!

Hi Everyone,

By all accounts the concert in Orlando at The Amway Center last night was another huge success! We’re waiting to hear from LeeLee who attended her second concert two nights in a row.

The Amway Center not only hosts the Orlando Magic but tons of musical performers and many other events. With a venue as nice as this the Amway Center is a must see and quite an improvement over the old Amway Arena. The Amway Center recently opened on October 1, 2010 on 400 West Church Street in download Orlando, Florida at a total construction cost of $480 million no expense was spared. In the future tha Amway Center will look to hosting Rodeos, Monster Truck Jam Shows and maybe even a UFC fight. The Amway Center is home to the National Basketball Association’s Orlando Magic and the Orlando Predators of the AFL. The Amway Center took over for Amway Arena that was among one of the oldest venues in the NBA. The Amway Center box office provides a seating capacity of over 18,500 for NBA games. The Amway Center tickets for upcoming events should be a hot item. The venue has all the most recent venue technologies and amenities.

Il Volo is back in Miami! Word has it they are going to finish some recordings. I hope they take a few days here to relax, although a lot of rain is predicted for the next few days.

The next concert is a big one, Radio City Music Hall In NY on September 27th, The Guys are very excited! I hope they get some down time while in Miami, they deserve it!!!!

A HURRICANE NAMED IL VOLO HITS MIAMI..

Il volo hit Miami like a storm last night at The American Airlines Arena.

My friend LeeLee and I drove to the magic City last night after meeting for the first time, first on this site and then in person. LeeLee and I commented how beautiful the Miami skyline looked, neither one of us had been there in a while. The Arena was beautiful and I watched a cruise ship make a U turn at the Port of Miami.

We decided to eat at “Bongos”, Gloria Estefan’s restaurant right at the Arena. The food was excellent and we met other Il Volo fans that made the trip to Miami from Port St Lucie, an hour north of Palm Beach.

We had floor seats, pretty good views and we waited anxiously for the concert to begin. Being Miami, many people were “fashionably late.” The arena went dark and the 3 back lights appeared and then Gianluca’s silhouette appeared and the crowd cheered, then the other two appeared and the crowd went wild.

It went on for 2 hours with a 5 minute break in between. Their solo’s especially drew standing ovations, long ones! They seemed very humbled by that. The first encore they sang “Il Mondo” and “O Solo Mio” and that drew more standing “o’s”, They came back again with a short reprise of “O Solo Mio” and then finally a short version of “Smile” acapella. The crowd was roaring when they finally did their signature jump from the stairs!
Their voices soared in the Arena, I can tell you until you hear them live you can only imagine the power of their voices, they are just simply amazing!

Thank-you LeeLee for sharing this for me, I’ll never forget it!

By all accounts, pictures and videos; the concert, last night in Westbury was a resounding success and according to Gianluca, was a sell out!!

Ignazio tweeted, “Ready for Westbury”, then “Amazing tonight, hard life, but worth it” He later tweeted, “you never know whats gonna happen to your life, so just live it” ( he’s so right!)

There are some amazing videos on Mundial, apparently the use of cameras was being allowed at this venue.

Tonights concert is at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury, NY.

Recognized by audiences and performing artists as one of the most comfortable, friendly, and acoustically-inviting theatres in the greater New York metro area, the NYCB Theatre at Westbury presents a broad range of acclaimed performers geared to virtually every entertainment taste and interest. The venue has a rich and storied history that begins in 1956 when three partners, Frank Ford, Lee Guber and Shelly Gross, stepped out of car to inspect the underdeveloped industrial site that was to become the Westbury Music Fair.

The Westbury Music Fair became a reality on June 18, 1956 when the three entrepreneurs opened their first Westbury production. The show was “The King and I” staring Charles Korvin and Constance Carpenter.

In 1966, recognizing the ever increasing hunger for more entertainment on Long Island, the tent gave way to a state of the art, fully enclosed theatre-in-the-round. The expanded programming enabled Music Fair Productions to present both Broadway shows and top name talent year round.

The first show to be held in the new facility in 1966 was Jack Benny with Special Guest Wayne Newton. Among the many shows to be held at Westbury over the years were performances by Judy Garland (1967), The Who (1968), and Bruce Springsteen (1975) as well as regular appearances by such notable stars as Tony Bennett, Tom Jones, Don Rickles, Diana Ross and many more.

This theatre has special memories for me. I was a teenager (hard to believe) living on Long Island when this theatre opened, it was quite the talk at the time!

“The Boys” were apparently spending time in NY on their day off. New York is a favorite place for them. I’m sure they are looking forward also to the upcoming Radio City Concert.

The author of the article stated, “The demographic profile of their fan base is one of the most comprehensive I have ever witnessed and consists of Gen X, Gen Y, Baby Boomers and Pre Baby Boomers’ She also says “They are wise and sensitive beyond their years”

We are eagerly awaiting Michele’s concert experiences and photos.

On a personal note, LeeLee (from this site) and your “Girl Reporter” are meeting for the first time and going to the Concert in Miami on Saturday! We are very excited!!
