Notte Magica – Taormina! June 1, 3-4, 2017

nottemagica headerOnce again, I sit before a blank page, wondering what will appear from my fingertips?  Three more beautiful concerts, gone in a flash.  They made the ancient stage come alive once more.  Sicily – home to Piero and Ignazio.  A special feeling for them.  As in the picture below, they say they sang their first concert in Italy from that stage.  It was there that Italy first heard, live, the beautiful words of “Memory” sung by Ignazio, Gian’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and Piero’s “No Puede Ser.”  In those moments, Italy finally knew what they had been missing; what the Americans already knew!  They are greeted by friends and family wherever they go, but home is always a special place.  As you watch the many videos and pictures that came through, there was no doubt that Piero and Ignazio were having a grande time.  Even Ginaluca joined in the fun on occasion!  I was fortunate to hear a little bit of the June 1 & 3 concert live, thanks to Ivolomusic on Instagram, however, they did not seem to do it for the last concert – but I was home, ready and waiting!  I heard Piero’s solo and Tonight from Ignazio and a few others.  Glorious as always.  The same, yet different.  The stage and the lighting there was beautiful, as only Taormina and the Teatro Antica can be.  So, here we are with some clips and pictures of some of those glorious nights.  I apologize, I might not know which night is which, but the video usually indicates it.  Credit to all owners.

This picture below from Il Volo music – they say “our first concert was on this stage!”Image may contain: 3 people, people smiling, crowd

Picture above…. saying goodbye to Taormina… (wonder if Igna had been having some bad hair days? He seems to be wearing this Madrid cap in many photos!)

Look at the beauty and lights of that backdrop below!

Ok, don’t know how they do it, but it looks like this is a good portion of most of the concert!  June 1, 2017   Enjoy!

And this, the guys having a little fun in the streets! Note Maria Grazia filming with her phone… 🙂  Dani/Daniela, or if anyone can translate what they are singing or saying, that would be fun!  It seems like it’s impromptu?

One more thing to add that I thought was pretty cool, if you missed it.  This is from Il Volo Music’s FaceBook page. I think you can actually hear the orchestra flub a bit!  If you keep watching the videos, there are some really great ones! (Watch for Piero in his dressing room in the 2nd one… 😉 ) Hope the link works!

Yes, 3 more down and still many more to come!  The guys do get a bit of a break, but are then off to Malta on June 8!

Just a little side note….don’t know how many have noticed, but our Il Volo Flight Crew Instagram account has been deactivated.  I hear this has been going around, as well as some getting their virtual hands slapped by FaceBook.  Please be cautious out there on what you post.  I don’t know how they are making these decisions, but I know a few of our crew members have been affected by it.

Also a special shout-out to Jane & Daniela for keeping this site at a cruising altitude…. 🙂

Beautiful Sicily,

We owe you a bunch,
Your exports are lovely,
Pistachios to munch,
Olives for martinis,
Sardines for our toast,
Your wine makes us happy,
Of that you can boast.
Those things are quite welcome,
We like them a lot,
And we have to tell you
They sure hit the spot.
We love you for sending us
Goodies galore,
But we have to tell you
We love something more.
Even more than the taste treats–
You gave us your sons,
Piero and Ignazio,
Yes, they are the ones.
Grown up tall and handsome.
Remember them when
They played in your backyards?
And now they are men.
Teamed up with Gianluca
They gave us your songs.
But they’ll always remember
You’re where they belong.
You loaned them to us,
But you gave them their starts,
And now they are planted
Quite firm in our hearts.
So Sicily, we thank you
Sincerely again,
For giving us Il Volo
Your finest of men.

Il Volo Professional ~~ Italy CD Signing Tour — Vittuone and Sicily

Hey!

The Guys have completed two more days of signing and are headed to Palermo (probably will be on to the next place by the time of posting).  I think they are starting to look a little tired even as they bask and soak in the love of their people.  It brings tears to my eyes to see the love, and I’m a little hard of hearing from all the screaming,  but I’m ready for more.

Enjoy and see you later!

Italia – Sicilia

We all know that Sicilia is the Italian island Piero and Ignazio call home, so lets start our virtual tour of the region with a little overview by our own MN.

Tidbits on Sicily by MN (mlla)

Sicily ( Sicilia) is an autonomous Region in Italy. The island of Sicily has a surface of 25,708 km², and has about five million inhabitants. It is also the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and it includes some groups of smaller islands like Isole Eolie, Egadi and Pelagie.

In Sicily you find, close to the cities of Messina and Catania, the Mount Etna the tallest active Volcano in Europe.”

Thank you MN for your contribution to Sicilia Part 1!

There are a number of ways to arrive in Sicily, of course you could fly, but you may also take a train, ferry or a hydrofoil. Our bus tour took us across the Strait of Messina  (Stretto di Messina) from Villa San Giovanni in Reggio Calabria by ferry. We arrived in Messina in about twenty to 30 minutes.  I think it took longer to load the ferry than to cross. If you travel by train, the train is loaded in a ferry and you are free to get out and roam around as we did.

 Numerous cones on the Etna

Etna continues to erupt and even though from a distance it looks as if it may have one symmetrical cone there are actually many cones across the mountain, visible in the pictures above.  There have been numerous lava flows on the Etna, after past explosions, authorities in Sicily have been forced to build dams or dig ditches to divert lava away from homes, some have been abandoned.

Roman Colosseum (Colosseo) at dusk

The Flavius amphitheatre is the biggest and most imposing in the Roman world, but is also the most famous monument in Rome and is known as the “Colosseum” or “Coliseum”. Started by Emperor Vespasian of the Flavia family, it was opened by his son Titus in 80 A.D. http://www.italyguides.it/us/roma/colosseum.htm

Italia  – Let’s Go!  Part 3 concludes the Italia – Let’s go series.  All of the pictures in the post “Italia – an Il Volo Flight Crew Special Feature” have been identified.  As this series of Italia comes to a close, I am not exactly sure where we will travel next, there are unlimited possibilites. We may hop around Italia as if we are on a private jet and can go anywhere we want at a moments notice.  Won’t this be fun!

Soon though, we will travel to Assisi where Il Volo recently performed in Rai’s Concerto di Natale at the Basilica di San Francesco. Assisi, a medieval city built on a hill, is the birthplace of Saint Francis and according to Rick Steves’s “The Basilica di San Francesco is one of the artistic highlights of medieval Europe.” http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/destinations/italy/0400basilicatour.htm
