~Throwback Thursday~ UNICI IL VOLO

Penina sent in this video of the boys that  was done about back in 2014.  Thank you Penina for sending it in and Daniela for translating it for us.  It really is enjoyable to watch!!

IGNAZIO:

When I was little, every day my mother was screaming, because  when I came back from school, I ate, I did homework (when I did) and I went behind my house because we built huts and we were whole days inside talking, joking and playing, then we went out to play soccer.

Everything was more beautiful.  Now it is very beautiful but many times I try to rethink everything that happened to me when I was little, also because I did everything with naivety, I did not think much about things.

GIANLUCA:

We need to unplug and go back to where it all started. I grew up here, all my memories, all my past, I always carry it with me, even when I’m on tour.

My adolescence has been completely different from all my friends.  Sometimes I think about my life and I say, “this is my life” and reflect and think about it.  When you’re on tour, when you wake up every morning in a different hotel, in different cities, even in different countries and you think, “but all those people are here for me, for us” is like a dream.

PIERO

I was short, fat, protruding ears, I had so many faults, I was  a pacioccone (a plump boy).   I remember that as a child I could not stay at home, in fact I started working when I was 11.  The summer immediately after school I worked two years in the bodywork by my father.

MOM OF PIERO

Nothing is done this way from today to tomorrow, there are many, many sacrifices.

OPTICAL OF PIERO

We’ve known each other for a long time and I’ve always followed him in his musical and artistic career.  Every now and then he came into the shop and I always offered him glasses that were a little more special than the others.

PIERO

Immediately after the discovery of my voice, my grandfather Pietro discovered my voice, my father never, never stopped believing in me.  In fact, I sang over the hood of the cars in the body shop and my father had all the customers listen to  my voice.

I sang GRANADA, I sang UN AMORE COSI’ GRANDE and you saw this little boy, 1 meter and 40 (cm) singing GRANADA and all the neighbors were looking out.

THE PARISH OF NARO

Let’s say that every time there is always at least one meeting.  A meeting to tell me about his things that I do not tell you because there is the secret of confession.  But also to meet, because even if he is smaller (younger) and I am older there is a friendship.

IGNAZIO FROM THE STAGE OF TAORMINA

When you’re a child, you do not imagine what can happen in the future, right?  And we really have to say thanks to our families, because from the first day we decided to sing, they always believed in us.  Always with the same strength in all these years we are singing. Always with the same strength they are helping us.

PIETRO OGNIBENE , PIERO’S GRANDFATHER

Always followed me, as a child, I took him, put him on the table and I had him sing in the country.

There was something true.  I felt that something had to happen, but I never would have thought it would come to these levels.

PIERO FROM THE STAGE OF TAORMINA

I would like to say something before this song.  Two years ago we made a television program with the present Massimo Giletti.   Massimo gave me an immense gift.  He let me find my grandfather on TV, because in every interview I always say, ” my dream is to sing in front of my grandfather” because it is he who has discovered my voice.

Well, today my grandfather Pietro Ognibene is here and I would like to dedicate this song to you all but especially to him because my dream has come true today.

Thank you grandfather.

GIANLUCA FROM THE STAGE OF TAORMINA

No, now that I’m here, sorry but I have to do it, grandfather Ernesto (he introduces his grandfather). I had to do it, a great grandfather.

Grandparents are the most beautiful thing in the world.  Applause to all grandparents.

BARBARA DE ROSSI Italian actress

For example, Piero,  is the person with whom I have a true friendship.  I believe that he is living all this with great simplicity, also because his grandfather is the person who brought him to lyric music. Its roots are those of a simple family that made many sacrifices to let him sing.  I think he manages to keep his feet well on the ground.

I believe that in their future there will be some very important things.  The important thing is that they remain a group, as they are.  They are very well followed because Michele Torpedine is very good and is also a humanly very smart person.

VITO BOSCHETTO

Ours is a united family, even when traveling to the United States and Latin America.  This separated me a little from my wife.  Being that (Ignazio) was a minor,  we accompanied him (one of them in turn) so  the union is a little upset, but now, with the age of majority, my wife and I reassembled, because he is traveling alone.

We are proud of what he is doing, so even if there was a momentary gap (between the couple), I would do it again 100 times.

News/Film Un Amore Cosi Grande, by Daniela

Sunday, December 31, in the newspaper the Arena,  appeared this article that updates us on the movie UN AMORE COSI’ GRANDE.   Here is the translation of the most interesting part.

GREAT SCREEN, THE LYRICA FLIES IN THE WORLD

“A return of image for our city thanks to the participation of the three tenorini de IL VOLO”

While we are still discussing the fate of opera in Verona, the best part of the city of Verona, is ready to debut on the big screen with “UN AMORE COSI’ GRANDE” the film produced by the Verona A.C. Production by Michele Calì and Federica Andreoli.  It hopes to bring young people closer to the world of opera through a love story that promises to fascinate film and opera lovers of different latitudes.

In addition to the distribution in Italian cinemas, in fact, expected between late February and early March 2018, the film will land in 47 other countries, “with great image return both for our beautiful city, where most of the scenes were shot (Arena, Sala Maffeiana, Teatro Filarmonico), and for the lyrical tradition for which Verona is, and must continue to be, ambassador in the world, comments Calì.

The plot, already involving for the subject, also plays another winning card: the friendly participation of IL VOLO, a fresh and young presence, like the two protagonists of the film, Giuseppe Maggio and Francesca Loy, all witnesses, each in his own role, of the prodigiousness of music, and in particular of belcanto.

“A challenge, also for us producers” adds Calì, “to bring Ignazio, Piero and Gianluca on the set, to interpret themselves.  We were the first to succeed and this made us believe even more in the project, obviously also appreciated from the three world-famous artists.”

………………the article continues talking about the subsidies and other non-leading actors.

*****************************

Also on you tube appeared this video interviewing the main actress, Francesca Loy.

You can activate the simultaneous translator, however at the beginning questions are asked about the plot.  She says that she can not reveal much because the film has not yet come out.

It is a love story that takes place between St.Petersburg and Verona, two guys who meet and one of them is passionate about opera.

At minute 4.59 Francesca Loy answers questions about the Flight that I’m going to translate.

* Recall that also recite the three guys of IL VOLO, Ignazio Piero and Gianluca, winners of Sanremo in 2015.  Tell us a little gossip, how was acting with them, what types are they?

F= So, I’ll tell you, they are first of all very nice guys, just handy, not at all arrogant, they do not even seem famous.  You realize that when one evening I went out with Gianluca.  We went to Piper (a local in Verona) and he was very quiet, that is, very simple people.

It was exciting, because still hearing them sing live, it is an indescribable emotion.

* Are they as strong as they feel on television?

F = Yes, absolutely yes, they are very nice, all three, especially with Ignazio.  I laughed a lot, they are really sweet and very nice guys.

~ Italian-American-Venezuelan Il Volo Fluff ~

Marie recently sent me two video clips she thought we would all enjoy.  She coined them “Il Volo fluff.”  The first is a clip from an interview in Venezuela and as an added plus it has English subtitles!

Our guys can sing acappella any time, any where.  They are just that good!  Love seeing Piero spontaneously throw his head back, cracking up in laughter.

Enjoy this little tidbit of Il Volo just being their charming selves!

The second clip is from a television news show where Lou Maglio, who claims to be 100% Italian, gets the results of his DNA ancestry search.  This is a very popular thing to do now.  Many of you may have already done so.  Who knows…maybe we ALL have a little or a lot of Italian lineage in us!!

Thanks Marie!

~ Article From Bologna Newspaper ~ by Daniela

In the newspaper of Bologna, IL RESTO DEL CARLINO, this article was published.

In the first picture you see our boys and Torpedine, together with another guy named Dave Monaco.

Dave Monaco will participate in the selections on December 15 to be admitted to Sanremo. These days in several posts the boys have supported Dave’s candidacy, asking everyone to give preference by voting for this guy.

I will translate the most important points for you.

image

The boys speak…

“It’s the big news of our professional life.

Together with our manager Michele Torpedine, we have created a record company, which will develop and give an opportunity to the future stars of the Italian song.

The authentic one, the one that looks at tradition, our roots, melody and beautiful singing, but covering it with a contemporary feeling, which allows us to reach such a vast audience.”

“………………we are particularly proud of having decreased the age of opera lovers, which in Italy had always been considered the patrimony of a very adult aged and elitist public, that habitually frequent the traditional theaters. We managed to achieve this by mixing the classical repertoire with our songs, showing that the most beautiful romances are truly timeless and can excite, seduce and make people dream, like a pop song.”

“We are now engaged in the production of a very young tenor who will participate in the selection of” Sarà Sanremo,” with the song L’ETERNITA ‘ PER CHI SA VOLARE, on December 15th on RAI 1.”

To the question …. and your new record ??   The boys answer like this…

“We will publish it in 2018 and will amaze fans, we are convinced, because it will be very different from the previous ones”.

What do you say about all this?  Beautiful gesture from the boys really!

Last curiosity, Dave Monaco was born in Brescia !!

~The Three Boys With Suitcase ~ by Valeria Bosch

A Christmas fairy tale dedicated to Il Volo.

image

Once upon a time there were three children.  One was called Gianluca, another Ignazio, the third Piero. They had come as a gift to three provincial families of our beautiful Italy, who lived several kilometers away from each other. What had been the amazement of mothers in finding that, in the closed fist with which they had presented themselves to life, each of the children hid a briefcase with a flying wing on it and a musical note!

Those suitcases were entrusted to them, at the time of departure for the Earth, by the Archangel Michael, from Bologna, who had personally chosen also the families to send them, of which he had certainly not taken into account the wealth and social position, but only honesty, rectitude and fullness of the love that inspired them. The three mothers, in their typically maternal foresight, did not throw away those suitcases because, they thought, they could serve in the future. And it did not take many years for those same suitcases, duly dusted and polished, to serve the three little ones for a trip to Rome, where the blonde fairy, Antonella, was waiting for them, who immediately loved them and understood that those guys had a lot to give to the whole world.

image

In Rome, the three boys saw each other for the first time.  They recognized themselves at the start from the sky.  They had not just been given the suitcase, but everything necessary to put in it to bring to the world the amazement of three celestial voices.  Voices different from each other, but which together, as if by magic, became a force of nature, an angelic concert, a magnet for all people.

It was in this way that the archangel Michael, seeing his pupils departing for “an extraordinary adventure,” decided to come down to their side on earth, stripping of wings and halo, and keeping only, as a sign of recognition, the flowing white hair, down to the nape. Then the three original suitcases widened and multiplied and the angel’s voices resounded in the most distant lands.  In Latin America, Canada, the United States, and in Europe, until their return home, where right away the people received them not as something other than itself, but as something that was already in their heart, in their blood, in their humus (roots).

image

But, in the middle of the cheering crowd, there was a witch lurking in the name of Mass and surname Media, a slightly waving witch, sometimes good-natured, but more often bad and unjust. However, the boys went undeterred on their way, strewn with satisfactions and triumphs, always accompanied by “Fra Ercole” their trusted advisor, and “sister Barbara” their putative mother, indispensable support in every difficult and unexpected situation of their wonderful adventure. Meanwhile, the boys, who when they were presented in Rome by the blonde fairy were rather awkward and clumsy, like all the kids of that age, they decided to grow not only in the voice, but also in the physical and in the look, and received  help from a whole court of elves and from the magicians Armani and Lardini. They turned them into marvelous princes of a beauty to leave breathless!

image

Finally, as in all the fables that are respected, here also appears a patron saint, San Placido from Madrid, who loves them, esteems them and elevates them, regardless of criticism and risks, in the highest place, in the empyrean of the lyric, because he understood.  As he was inspired also from the sky by his fraternal friend San Luciano da Modena, that these guys, in addition to unique and inimitable voices, received the greatest treasure: the voice of the heart.  That voice that goes straight to the heart of the people who listen to them and can reach all the corners of the earth.

image

And now we are  at Christmas.  Gian, Ignazio and Piero have temporarily put away their “suitcases,” ready to take them out soon, because their adventure must continue and continue for a thousand years more.  More and more bright, more and more unique, more and more extraordinary, because they are IL VOLO.  IL VOLO because they are always traveling to be close to the people who love them.  IL VOLO because they make their voices fly higher than those of the angels, to give people even just a moment of serenity and of joy.  IL VOLO because they make the heart of those who listen to them fly towards the infinite.

Merry Christmas, guys with the suitcase, thank you for what you  give us, thank you for being in our hearts, thanks for reassuring our minds.

Thank you.

And AD MAIORA SEMPER !

~ Ave Maria Mater Misericordiae ~ by Daniela

image

The only new theme of the album Notte Magica – Tribute to the three tenors is Ave Maria, Mater Misericordiae, composed by Giorgio F. Pintus and Romano Musumarra. This song, although it was included in the album, was not interpreted by Il Volo in the concert held on July 1, 2016 in the Piazza Santa Croce in Florence, during which the Notte Magica album was recorded live, because it had to be performed during the World Youth Day, in front of Pope Francis.

image

Unfortunately, Il Volo could not keep up with the Krakow appointment due to technical problems, and the live performance of the song had to be postponed until March 2017.   Il Volo sang live for the first time Ave Maria Mater Misericordiae, on March 2, 2017 in Easton (USA), although its official presentation was at the concert of Radio City Music Hall, in New York, on March 4, 2017.

image

Since the first performance, the song has become a favorite of the Magic Night tour viewers. It is a small jewel, in the purest style of Il Volo, which perfectly adapts to the vocal characteristics of the group. The song, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, begins softly in a low tone with the voice of Gianluca Ginoble, followed by Ignazio Boschetto and increases in intensity in the refrain by Piero Barone. But the climax comes at the end of the song, when Ignazio Boschetto attacks the highest notes and the three voices finally come together in a great harmony. The text is a perfect combination of tradition and modernity and manages to be poetic without being antiquated.

Below is a video of the execution of the Ave Maria, Mater Misericordiae on the day of its presentation in New York on March 4, 2017.

~ Piero Premio Karkinos ~ by Daniela

image

On December 16th the Karkinos Prize was held in Agrigento, an award that is recognized to the excellence of the Agrigento area.

Piero is from Naro which is in the province of Agrigento.   He is being recognized for the special prize for music.

Here is the translation of what was said:

“Special Award Karkinos 2017 for Music goes to Piero Barone”

(Piero is seated next to his mother, and a video clip shows Piero’s moments.)

The presenter says she is not used to all these people and all these flashes and thanks Piero for being there.  Everyone knows the load of commitments that IL VOLO has and having Piero present is a great honor.

She goes on to say that Piero was one of the first to arrive on that day and was present all the time.  This makes it clear how much Piero is a correct person who is keeping this presence.

Piero is asked what effect this has to receive this award in his land.

image

Piero replies that he spent his childhood coming every Saturday afternoon from Naro with his dad to sing in the chorus of  voices of S.Cecilia and that everything was born from there. Being recognized in his land is the most beautiful thing, gives him so much satisfaction, and tonight sees so many faces he knows.

Yesterday evening he arrived from Mexico to attend this award.

Carmelo Cantone Carmelo is called to deliver the award.  He says that Piero is an undisputed international star, and that it was for two months that it was uncertain because, ….. he comes, he does not come.  The father of Piero helped by updating him on his travels.  He was in Japan, then in Mexico when Carmelo asked Gaetano, “but when does he return?”  Gaetano said “almost certainly” but this “almost” was not a certainty and then Gaetano sent him a message that yesterday he was at the airport to get Piero and Carmelo was finally reassured.

image

Piero continues by saying that he and Ignazio and Gianluca with Torpedine have founded a new record label to give space to young talents, and three of these are Sicilian.

Then talking about his land, Piero says that two weeks a year he has a summer rest.   He passes this time in San Leone, in his land.  He could go to the Maldives, but those who want to see him say to come to San Leone, in his Sicilia.

Another award is given to Piero, executed by a jeweler craftsman who makes jewelry dedicated to those who love Sicily and Piero as an ambassador in the Sicilian world is an example. The jewel depicts a Trinacria (symbol of Sicily).

image

A floral tribute is then given to Piero and then the Karkinos prize with the following reasons:

“The Karkinos Prize Commission is pleased to award the special prize for music to Piero Barone for his planetary success in the field of music.  Piero Barone, despite his very young age, with his important artistic achievements, has highlighted his land of origin all over the world with humility and pride.  The love for his land and his passion for music have made it a masterly example to follow for the many talents of our territory. “

Piero receiving the award says that he is from Naro, was born in Naro, and always returns to Naro where there are many people who love him and these people with the mayor have dedicated a wing of the Castle of Naro to him, as Piero Baron houseteca. At the beginning he thought “but I’m not dead, I do not want a museum” (everyone laughs) but the housetca has become a reference point for all the fans who follow him and there is a bulletin board dedicated to the prizes and this award will go there.

image

Piero then says that the success they achieved in Sanremo is not only due to them but to everyone’s affection and explains that he sees his work as that of any craftsman (shoemaker, coachbuilder), he explains that the fans are his clients and he could NEVER deny them an autograph or a photograph.

Then he says that Grande Amore was the song that consecrated them to the public and that he lives in Bologna because he undertook the study of opera for his personal satisfaction.

In the end Piero thanks the audience saying that he really loves everyone.
